The form dates to around the 1850s and was used right throughout the 19th century

Sometimes you also see this motif with a hand holding a bar

but finds new life repurposed as a receptacle for rings or studs

Some fading to the black dye from age

The frame is meant to sit table-top but you could easily add hardware to the back if you would like to fit it to hang
