The South African Union mint in Pretoria struck this coin (Source: Monnaies et jetons des colonies franaises, Ed. Gadoury). These coins circulated in Madagascar and the Comores (which became a seperate colony in 1946). The were withdrawn from circulation (in both Madagascar and the Comores) on 1 September 1956 and were exchangable
