日本人写真家、ホンマタカシの作品集。本書は、作者の代表的とも言える作品『東京郊外 TOKYO SUBURBIA』（1998年光琳社刊）の続編であり、再解釈である。作者は、2020年東京オリンピックへと向けて準備する中刻々と変化する都市の景色と、決して変わることのない街並みを6年間以上にわたり撮影した。本書に収められているのは、東京というメガロポリスの絶対的なスケールを捉えたイメージ群である。それは、旧国立競技場が新国立競技場へと変貌を遂げていく様や、豊洲市場へと移転される直前の築地市場、東京湾岸の絶え間なく変化するビル群や広大な空き地の姿である。

巻末では、美術史家であり評論家、キュレーターであるフリッツ・ヒールスベルフ（Frits Gierstberg）、美術史家のフロリアン・エブナー（Florian Ebner）、写真表現の専門家であるアレッサンドロ・ココ（Alessandro Coco）、本展覧会キュレーターのシモーナ・アントナッチ（Simona Antonacci）、ピッポ・チョッラ（Pippo Ciorra）、アントネッロ・フロンジア（Antonello Frongia）によるエッセイも収録。イギリスの出版社・Mackとイタリア国立21世紀美術館の共同出版によって刊行されています。
