Victorian Mother of Pearl Inlaid Calling Card Tray
Description
Victorian Mother of Pearl Inlaid Calling Card TrayVictorian decorative objects painted with black lacquer and inlaid with mother of pearl are some of my favorite things to collect. The Chinese inspired design trend was most popular between the mid 1850s to mid 1860s. This plate would have held calling cards but serves very well as a general vide pche.
The prints are in very good condition with some minor cracking to the black finish around the edges
Measures 24” inches tall
Very clean and smooth with little to no fabric loss
She was his landlord’s wife and by all accounts
but there are also two holes at the bottom where you can reinforce it with a long nail
Imagine my surprise when I turned it over and recognized the signature: Ida Upton Paine was an artist whose parents were the owners of the House of Seven Gables in Salem
Refer to photos for size and condition: Wear to the silverplate
but this one was written specifically for a boy who drowned at age 17
Early 20th century gold metal crucifix with gothic arch motifs
I love the maroon covers with the silver spider & web embossed on the cover
also quite clean
The horseshoe-shaped wreath itself measures about 8” wide and the shadow box measures 17
