The work draws on the idea of Modron as mother or ground:  a source that holds

It seeks to reflect something of the tree’s generosity

and the rich patterns on the column show the trees attempts to make barriers to the fungal growth

I began with a drawing inspired by the cross-section of a small tree stem viewed under a microscope

This work was made in response to the proximity of the Beech tree to the sea and one time port of Llanbedrog

the structure suggests both separation and connection
