Nepenthes glabrata, BE-4592Nepenthes glabrata is one of the most elegant Nepenthes species. It comes from the highlands of Sulawesi. Over time, it produces an abundance of pitchers that appear as if they were hand painted because of the fine details. The species has a diminutive growth habit and would be perfect for a cool terrarium or windowsill somewhere with a cool climate like the Pacific Northwest. We've grown these under highland and intermediate conditions with great success and also had it under lowland conditions over a summer without skipping a beat

Thankfully this highly endangered species is now produced from a variety of sources

We expect elongated pitchers with wide peristomes and rich coloration

All plants in cultivation owe their lineage to a single mother plant (the type specimen) which was in bloom at the time of taxonomic collection

They tend to produce plum coloration as they open and then fade to purple/black as they age

This is a hardy variety that can be brought indoors for winter or left outside in most of central or south Texas (reportedly down to 15 degrees)
